I have a '69 ford galaxie. Recently, I had a valve job done on the heads, and after I reinstalled the heads, I put the manifold back on. I buttoned it up and started to fill the radiator, and It started leaking antifreeze!
I discovered the problem, a previous owner put gasket sealer on the intake manifold, which I didn't quite get all the way off, causing it to leak. After that, I cleaned up both surfaces very thoroughly, and reinstalled the manifold. I put antifreeze in, then it leaks again! (in a new place, the original leak was fixed)
So, my question is this: do these gaskets "crush" in order to create a good seal, but cannot be used again? Is there a less expensive alternative to getting another gasket set?
also, do I need to use gasket sealer on the intake manifold?
