My parents' 2001 Dodge Caravan SE Minivan (3.3L, 135,000, power doors, windows, A/C, tilt, 7 passenger) is leaking a number of fluids and the mechanic says it needs $2000-3000 to fix. Obviously, the car's not worth that. While they get a second opinion, I'd like to see what the car would be worth as a "mechanic's special" on Craigslist.
I know it needs a new water pump ($40 for the part) and a new oil pan ($50) if you get the parts off of eBay.
The KBB for private sale is currently $2400 at fair. The car needs a new bumper and a big dent banged out of the back, so that's another $400 right there off.
With the leaks and its overall shot condition, what price would make this car move fast on Craigslist? We want to give someone a deal and also get more than the dealer would offer for a trade-in (I imagine they'd lowball us for about $500, but hey, maybe that's what it's worth!).
Van would sell in Charleston, WV.
