Has anyone else seen this film? I saw it yesterday with English subtitles and must say it's one of the best animated films I've seen.

It was French animator Paul Grimault's only full-length feature which was in production from 1948 until 1979. There are two different cuts of the film floating around, an incomplete version from 1952 and the complete finished version from 1980.
The version I saw was the restored version from 1980, which is available in France, Canada, and Japan on DVD under "Le Roi et L'Oiseau". Unfortunately it's not commercially available in the US. However, an earlier incomplete version which was dubbed into English in the 1950's is available on public domain DVD in the US under the title "The Curious Adventures of Mr. Wonderbird". I have yet to see the incomplete 1952 version which I hear is inferior to the 1980 one.
