First, I realize that the church doesn't teach that we save ourselves. But from listening to President Uchtdorf's Conference talks, we also believe that the love of Christ requires us to follow his commandments.
Would you say that D&C 45:8 is a good summary of how this works?
"...and even unto them that believed in my name gave I power to obtain eternal life."
From what I understand, it pretty much states that belief comes first, Grace comes second, and then through that Grace, God gives us the tools which we use to obtain eternal life. Doesn't this say, at least in part, that we have a very significant part in our salvation? Of course, no one is saying we can do it on our own: but without our participation- a participation that includes more than just belief- we can not obtain eternal life.
Am I understanding this correctly?
