I want to have my name change through common law, which I know I can do, but how do I go about having it sealed? I have read a lot of information on the subject, and I know I would have to go through the superior court to have the records sealed if there are reasons of fear involved, but should I go through the court to have my name change if I want it sealed as well.
I was also wondering what other reasons would be accepted as valid to have the records sealed, and if I qualify, or should even try to have the records sealed. If I should try to have the records sealed should I get a lawyer to help me or can I do it on my own?
I have not spoken to my family in a few months now, but I see them from time to time and they follow me to try to find out where I am and where I am living. My mother and father were mentally and physically abusive. I had a restraining order against my father. My mother protected my family members even though they attempted to do horrible things to me which some of them were arrested for. I have avoided them since but they still try to contact me from time to time. I have next to no proof of any of this, but I am sure that they will try to find me someday. That is way I want to have my name change and have it sealed.
