laws of a dog in its own garden?

i opened the gate to my neighbors garden to get their bin out for emptying as i did
this their german shepard attacked me and bit me on the arm and leg,i had to have medical attention at hospital,want to know who is to blame me for entering
their garden or the dog for attacking me and can i get this dog removed from them
under dangerous dogs act
