Laws for car modifications in new york?

I was wondering about body kits. I was thinking of getting a VERY expensive ($5000) body kit from Charge Speed for my toyota supra. I could care less about things like underglow or performance upgrades, its a little late for that, but all I need to know is... how much clearance do we need at the bottom of our car? If we don't have any, ill be lowering that suspension, and I'll be scraping the road ALL THE WAY to my destination!
