Latest Tungsten Tx?

Here at 1src is the latest incarnation of "truth or dare" regarding the next generation of Tungsten.

The thread also lists or links to a European web site that offers a slightly different view of the 1src thread photo. I've attached that picture to this thread.

If you read thru the discussion thread at 1src, it also links to other pictures (actually Powerpoint slides of an internal PalmOne presentation) at VisorCentral.

Could be a hoax, could be real - just remember I'm not taking a stand on this at all and I'm simply doing my Public Service Annoucement for today.

I'm off to our state Capital to play golf in the morning so don't expect me to respond to all of the "flames" for posting this........:D

Well, it does look pretty cool. notice how all threads on the next TUngsten would have the palmone logo? Hm. Interesting. But i really prefer the blue ones now. :D I esp like the pop-out feel and the shiny finish. But the colour gives it quite pro feel, not tt the current one doesn't, but its a change isn't it? The only thing that I dun like is tt it looks a tat too alike to TE.
Cheers,

I vote hoax. It's hard to believe that Palm is going to roll out an OS 6 machine with the same tired old launcher. If this was real, I'm almost sure that they'd be displaying a Today type screen or something more exciting that a machine that looks like a T|E with a bunch of icons.

If it's landscape without slider, I'm there - provided old apps would work. Please be real, and let's get on with it one way or another! Seems about time for them to be releasing SOMETHING since September would give them a "Christmas roll" $$$ glut.

I certainly would like permanent landscape with no slider, like a T3 fixed "open." Hoax or not, I hope it's the way they go.

One thing to consider here perhaps ABOVE ALL is that there are NO DEVELOPERS' SITES that I can find claiming "OS6 ready."

If a photo is available and the photo is genuine, then surely prototypes would be shipped by now to developers for final compability testing. Anyone with an "in" with a developer should be contacting them NOW to see if models have shown up. So far none have shown up at Tealpoint (but I'll ask directly tomorrow).

I think PTLs words are wise. It seems pretty unlikely to me that cobalt is going to appear on a new p1 device this year. I suspect that any new device in the short term will not be a T5, but an upgraded TE2-type thing, maybe with 480x320 fixed form factor. The specs that are flying around just dont sound right and the model in these pictures is not what Id associate with a tungsten model that have always been the p1 high-end device...just my $0.02. If something like this did appear, I might think about it but I really dont like those buttons (sorry T3-fans)...

I'll have to say hoax as well, but for a different reason: Palm has a habit of sitting on their rear ends and offering nothing new when there's no competition. Sure, there's PPC, but as long as there's really not anything else out there in the Palm arena (ie Sony is gone), I don't see them improving anything. It would appear their strategy not to innovate, but milk the current product til you can't anymore. Truly a shame, since the absence of innovation and lack of price drops makes PPCs more and more attractive to more and more users.

Well, I tend to think this is a reasonable rendition of the next Tungsten device. It may or may not have OS6 but based upon all of the pics.......Sir JC Moderator, there is a new launcher if you scrolled through the Visor Central pics.

I think that there will be at least 3 devices coming from Palm this fall: A new Treo, a new Tungsten X or ? and as a yet named OS6 device that will have BT and WiFi and 320 X 480 with flash RAM so that you don't lose your data if a hard reset is necessary.

Now why do I think that - well assuming that PalmOne has someone monitoring these sites - and the should - the if they don't come out with an OS6 device, high end with Wifi etc, then kiss them goodbye because as someone so amply pointed out - PPC devices now have VGA screens and BT and WiFi and Palm is somewhat behind the curve.

But PalmOne has always managed to stay ahead of the curve - since OS6 Cobalt has been so obscured doesn't mean that PalmOne doesn't have a device - it just means that their security has gotten better.

M2C but you can't bet on any of it......this Moose has been known to be wrong.

I predicted this year that Garmin would come out with an another high end Que but didn't. Now I beleive that Garmin will not even release another device since they released the 3200 which was a downgrade of the 3600.......I think Garmin will most likely liscense their software in conjunction with PalmOne and then P1 will release some sort of "bundled" super PDA/Phone/GPS and take the world by storm and do so for under $599.

You heard it hear first. :D

Thanks SoS -

But if I am wrong, and I may be, it doesn't mean that I'll start offering rebates on P1 new devices so this thread is still a Public Service Annoucement.

And as with most PSA's - it simply takes up bandwidth. ;)

Check out this announcement at PIC.

It appears that the T5 is reality although the specs and pictures aren't yet "truthfully" available.

But at least there is a sku number in Staples.

And the wait is on.

T5? I never would have belived it. I was sure they'd start a new name, new design line etc. I haven't followed the rumours closely, but I am truely shocked now that they seem confirmed.
I just feel PalmOne could do with a fresh start. With the problems of previous T's, (in fact all Tungstens) there will be a dent in the confidence of many potential customers. I just hope they get it right this time- get out a pda that WORKS from the word go. I fear this will not happen, especially with the new OS.

I have three words for PalmOne, DIGITISER, DIGITISER, and DIGITISER. I'm yet to own a Palm that hasn't had serious digitiser problems, and until this is sorted, I am highly unlikely to get another Palm.

I've never had one WITH a digitizer problem--I even had (briefly) a m105 that worked fine. I must have gotten half of the Palms you were supposed to get.

Lol. I'm glad yours have all worked fine. Just curious- how long would you say you kept a single pda for? It was over a year before my iiic developed the problem, 6 months for the TT, and about 8 months for the T3....

I'm with Telyx and can't understand this digitizer thing unless you're all using them as HAMMERS . . .

M505 2 years, going strong, never a glitch or drift, replaced with T3 10 months ago (January).

T3 has BETTER digitizer, NEVER goes out of whack (fine tune with "DIGI" about every 6 weeks for the hell of it). Never off even after numerous soft resets and 5 hard resets. Digi is only to "be sure."

No friends that have digitizer problems with PALM - they were all irreparable crashes or screen problems with SONY. Total 5 now.

I'm wondering if the UK doesn't get a "weird batch" of other imports dropped from somewhere weird to save freight? Although China ship everywhere . . . maybe you could get your NEXT one from a "U.S. Marketplace" -- or did you do that? The Digitizer thing is strange and the fact you've been stung often is really annoying to ME - God knows how P.O.'d you are!!

Hang in ther buddy . . .

Paul,

It's not just England. I've had a III, IIIxe, IIIc, and a 515. The digitizer problems progressed from occasional with the III to outright unuseable with the 515, even after 3 replacements. OTOH, I had Visor Prism that my daughter-in-law still uses on a daily basis and my current machine is a Clie T665. Neither of these machines has ever had a digitizer problem. I know that Palm uses screens from at least three different sources and some of the screens obviously have much worse digitizers than others. It's apparent that luck must play a role since you and other people have had no digitizer problems and people like me iiic have had many problems. Just try a Google groups search with digitizer as the keyword. You'll get almost 3,000 hits. Programs like ReDigi and DigiFix would never have been written if this problem was trivial and only affected a small number of people. When my T665 gives up the ghost, I'll have to decide what I should buy as a replacement. The digitizer problems I've had with Palm brand machines will play role in my final decision.

In fact, I have put it off, but the problem is not going to get better, so I think i'll have to have it replaced before the warranty ends. I'm curious though, as I have never returned a PDA, how to go about it. Do I contact www.expansys.co.uk where I bought it, or do I contact Palm straight off? I presume it's Palm, but I don't know as I've never done it before. I had a Sony MiniDisc which broke once and I contacted Sony, but they told me to go to the place I bought it from.....
The other thing is, is it going to cost me money, and if so, does anyone know how much (?'s)?
My T3 is currently being used very little (except for ebooks) as this problem frustrates me so. I'm less than happy at the thought of having a refurbished product for a replacement, but in the end it has to be better than an unused T3 that I bought new.
Thanks

Contact the vendor first, and if they don't want to deal with it, contact Palm. I'm on my third T3 due to the digitizer problem. I feel your pain:(

I bought mine from CompUSA. The first one I returned to CompUSA's store, and was given a new T3. I was told then that they only do returns online, but they made an exception. When I returned that one, I did their online return. I didn't have to pay anything. It will depend upon the vendor as to whether you have to pay anything for it or not. I'm not sure how it works with PalmOne's warranty work.

I checked it out at Expansys's site, and apparantly after 21 days, you have to contact Palm :( So I've got the number to ring anyway! Just have to work up the enthusiasm to dial...
