Laserdisc Movies on DVD

Are you having a hard time finding movies on DVD, that you might be able to find on LaserDisc (LD)?

Post movies you might or can find on LaserDisc, but not on DVD here. People can look through and either post when the item may be released on DVD, Where you can find a copy on DVD, or let you know how you can find a LD copy or get your LD copy transferred to DVD.

If you can list the site of the LaserDisc you found, please do so to help others help you. Also please post the sites where the DVRAB are. If the disc is already on DVDr, you may want to PM the person(s) the site for safety and security reasons.

I'm personally looking for 'Nate & Hayes' on either LaserDisc or DVD. I bid on the LD on eBay, but got sniped out at the last moment. I will post if I've gotten either when I get them, but if you see no follow up post on it, GUESS WHAT?........
 
Laserdisc was the same size as a record & it was a disc with a movie on it.You put your Laserdisc in the machine & watched the movie.The down fall of Laserdisc was the prices of the movies which were too high.
 
I've still got around 120 laserdiscs which I intend to keep for as long as possible. The picture might not be as good (as DVD) as they are all letterbox, non-anamorphic - but the sound is far superior to that of DVD and the packaging is just so much nicer :)
 
Its alive and kicking. A vast number come with it although some studios ,cough lucas cough, refuse to use it. Saving Private Ryan has just been re-released with DTS.
 
I am so glad I skipped Laserdisc. OK, it had better sound and picture than VHS, but what a pain in the ass they were. The average movie is on 2 double-sided discs which means flipping and changing at least 3 times.

If you hated flipper DVD's then you would totally despise Laserdiscs.

And they were really expensive.

Good riddance to 'em.
 
The average movie was on one disc - and players played both sides automatically without having to flip the disc manually. Special Editions (and Laserdisc pretty much created the Special Edition) often came on 2+ discs - Star Wars (for example) comes on 9 and still has extras not released on any other format.

Laserdisc got a good run (at least 10 years) before DVD and the good ones still compare favourably with DVD. I'm glad I skipped VHS!
 
LaserDiscs are also analog video, believe it or not. They are not digital, though the sound can be a digital track. Early LD players only played one side at a time, but more recent ones had an optical sensor on top as well so you didn't have flip the disc. Yet Many of the players had a noticeable pause when it did the switch. LaserDiscs get what's known as lase-rot after time because they aren't made the same way as DVRAB. They also don't hold anywhere near the amount of information a DVD holRAB. DVD is slightly better bitrate which allows it to have better graphics and sounRAB whenever used.

There are also 2 kinRAB of LRAB. CAV & CLV (3 if you count LD-ROM, but very few players had that capability) CAV is a general standard for LD and allows about 40 minutes of show on each side. CLV is extended Play and Shows a little over an hour on each side and may offer special features. LD-ROMS were used in schools and for some fun games. The ROM discs usually were special made and outrageously expensive to have done.

I have a Pioneer LD-V4400 which does not auto-flip, But it has several other advantages I like, which is why I have it. I do a lot of LD transfers, so it's nice to have certain breaks in the movie anyway. I can always splice them together when I burn to DVDR. I keep all of my LRAB too, but I only buy rare OOP ones that are not available on DVD. Here are some of my LD Movies:
