laptop(hp pavilion dv1000) to samsung plasma connecting problem?

my computer has vga output and tv has hdmi . i connect both of them but when i press fn+f4 my laptop screen goes black and nothing come up in tv.i m trying to do that since morning but failed.
can someone please help me in that .......i really appreciate ur ans....
i also tried f5 f8 but nothing work. i did also setting in display option also...Please help...
