Laptop has no built in wireless network adapter, possible ways to browse internet?

Hey guys,
My cousin gave me his laptop since he is leaving the country, and for some reason, it does not have a built in WNA, so I can't detect or connect to my wireless network. To get a WNA installed would cost me a lot, apparently, so I turned to USB Internet sticks. They worked well for awhile, however, they were very fragile and I've been through three of them. I really don't feel like buying a fourth one and risking another accident. Does anyone know whether I have any more options? (Preferably less costly).

Also, I've tried being more careful with the USB sticks, but even the slightest nudge can lead to total destruction -_-.
Currently using a Ethernet Cable, but I'm stuck right beside my modem in the noisy living room. Will check for a PC Card Slot, sounds good. Thanks guys.
