...personal info with others? We rent in Pennsylvania. Our landlord did not send us an itemized list of deductions from our security deposit or any funds from that deposit within 30 days of our moving out. She, after 58 days, sent us a certified letter stating that we had agreed in a converstation with her to forfeit our deposit due to us terminating the lease without giving 60 days notice. This was never true, in fact she had left a message saying that the house looked great according to the realtor and we owed nothing. About a week or two later she had called and left another message that she had looked at the property and she would have to keep the deposit and that we owed another month's rent b/c of damage. We never received written notice of anything until 58 days following our move out date. We provided her with our new address as well.
In addition, she opened our mail and discussed our outstanding Electric bill with the neighbors and her husband called my husband's work and discussed the bill and the amount of the bill with my husband's boss. This bill was in our name and did not have any bearing on the property or future renters.
They just filed a civil action suit against us for the unpaid month of rent.
Am I able to counterfile based on the lack of an itemized list of security deposit deductions? And what about our privacy rights regarding the landlord discussing our personal info with others?

Certainly you can counter sue in the suit against you. In equity LL should have clean hands, and you're stating she doesn't, so counter about failure to fulfill requirements of law, etc.
Did you respond to the letter stating you had agreed?

Had you requested a final reading from electric company and given them your new address, you wouldn't have had this problem, would you? And although you may have set yourself up on this, LL should not be opening maile not addressed to her nor contacting hubby's boss, etc.

Privacy rights are limited. It's NOT slander if it's true. Certainly you can throw everything into your countersuit.
