I had a laminectomy and laminotomy from L3-S1 and a bone fusion/screws in L3-4 to stabilize the spine. It has been 13 weeks since this surgery. A few weeks after surgery I had NO symptoms and it was marvelous. Of course I had surgery incison pain/discomfort, but I knew that was temporary. However, at this point all of my pre-op symptoms have come back almost as bad as before surgery. My symptoms are not so much pain, rather a 'heavy pressure on the sacral area, weakness in the leg muscles, pain wrapping around the knees, intense burning in one foot, occasional burning pain in calf muscles. I have not yet started physical therapy because my surgeron said I had to wait until the fusion was completely healed at about 12weeks. I am walking about 1-2 miles every day.
My question is - might I expect to have some symptom improvement over time and if so, what has been your experience as to how long improvement takes? Thanks!

Are you still taking some pain meRAB? Often as you get active after surgery like you had pain can increase so pain meRAB and muscle relaxers can help that for the time being. I had an L3-S1 fusion in February and saw my surgeon yesterday. The fusion looks great but he said they did so much work to my back that he can see why some pain continues. I'm now going to do some physical therapy to see if we can improve any of my symptoms.
