Lack of power mazda 323f ba 1.8 auto?

I posted this question before, however the answer didn't resolve the problem, so maybe someone knows something else I could check?

Basically, I have owned a mazda 323f ba 1.5 manual for more than 2 years and for it's engine size the little sporty hatchback pulled like crazy, now I bought a 1.8 auto and there is a severe lack of power when on low rpms (still goes like a rocket on the motorway though) and when idle the car occasionally ''skips a beat''. There is a leak on the exhaust just after where the pipe comes out from the engine bay, could that be a reason? I changed the spark plugs today, and spark plug wires seem to be just fine. It just feels like the engine is operating on like 30% of it's potential, takes forever to get to 60. (Filters and oils have been changed recently as the car has just now passed MOT) Also, it never fully heats up, it stays a little bit below the normal temperature. Help? Just bought the car and don't feel like replacing every single part that I suspect to be broken.
