I live in Ontario and receive the Bell satellite signal from Sat 91. Recently it has been very obvious that a delay of up to at least 600mS exisits between the two signals, especially when viewing PBS West and the Knowledge channels. Even WGBH from Boston shown delays and sometimes TVO. Now based on the speed of electromagnetic propogation of 186,000 Miles/Sec, a delay of 600 mS represents a path length of approximately 120,000 miles.
I would have thought that the Audio and Video signals would travel the same path, therefore should not exhibit any delay.
So what is causing the delay? Is it within the studio, the national distribution network, the satellite or what?
I have contacted some of the stations and all of them assure me that the sound and video signals are in sync when they leave their premises. The common denominator is Bell ExpressVu and whoever controls the cross continental microwave and cable links. (probably Bell).
I have tried on three occasions to contact Bell but they seem to choose not to reply.
Today, I watched the CBC News at noon and there was a perceptible lip syncing problem there.
Any clues as to what is the cause of this irritating problem, and what is being done to correct the situation.
