I work for a private business and what I consider my break at work is just generally reading the newspaper, sitting in the desk w/ my head down for 5 min, walking around, taking a fresh breath outside, (I never leave the facility)..however the owner/boss gets irritated when coming into facility and see such action being done. (When all my work duties have been done). So now she has told all employees there is no such thing as a break during our shift, which are 7 hr shifts. They don't want to see us resting at all. They want to see us working at all times. Is this right?

Laws vary state to state. Most states do not require breaks, including lunch breaks. There is also no federal law mandating breaks.

Gabbie Abbie and Mel are both wrong in their assumptions. OSHA has no laws in regards to breaks.
