Labcorp LOST MY URINE SPECIMAN.. What should I do?

Im currently applying for a job at best by and was hired, went the NEXT day to take the Urine Drug Test, its been 2 weeks and I decided to go in and see whats up. Bestbuy has my status as TIMED OUT, meaning I never took the drug test and now have to wait 45 days to apply again. I HAVE proof of taking the drug test but was told by the store manager " I " have to talk to Bestbuy corp. that does the hiring and theres nothing he can do. Well I made an insane amount of phone calls. Talked to one company (lexus nexus) that called Lapcorp and the lady who dealt with my test said it was sent out.

BACK STORY: I had an argument with this horrible nasty woman... I think she threw my speciman out because of it...

So I faxed a copy of my Chain of Custody Form to lexus nexus and she said she would have to track the courier service to see what happened to it because Labcorp's labs never recieved it!... So I called up Bestbuys corp that deals with hiring (Unicrew) and told them the problem and that I want to have my TIMEDOUT status removed because I clearly took the test within 48hrs and it was not my fault that someone misplaced my speciman. They told me to tell the bestbuy manager to contact them so they can work this out.

SO I don't know what I should do at this point but, I truly believe the woman at Labcorp discarded my speciman and now Im in need of work and have to wait on these incompetent people at bestbuy to realize I DID take the test on time and that I SHOULD NOT be punished and have to wait 45 days.

Has anyone dealt with anything like this? What should I do?

THANK U!

P.S. just my luck......

I have been using the same lab for many years, on a monthly basis...so well over 400 times. Never had a mistake happen, knock on wood.

In my experience, lab results are available within 24-48 hours. Perhaps if you had not waited two weeks to check on your lab results, you could have simply taken the test again.

At every visit to the lab, you sign in with the date and hour that you arrive. Paperwork must be completed with each lab order, that can easily be tracked.

What reason did you have to end up in a nasty dispute with the lab employee? Urine samples are sent out several times a day, to be tested. Of course, mistakes can happen, but rarely. I highly doubt your technician threw your urine out.

You sound very angry at your potential employer, which makes me wonder if that is the right place for you to pursue employment. I suggest you re-take your drug test, and start applying at other businesses, rather than wait for this one job.

However you work this out, it is never businesslike to use anger when doing any negotiations with employers. This could easily send up a red flag about how you might handle yourself at work.

Good luck to you...

Thank you for the reply! Well I wasn't sure how long it takes to get results and I never heard back from them. But once 48 hours pass I would be "timed out". They're blocking out labcorp lol (labcorp) anyway, I had a dispute because the woman had started yelling at me but I can't blame her, I'm sure she is just a miserable person and hates her life. Regardless I never used anger yet with this whole process.. Just disappointed no one can find my drug test. I have to make some calls now so I'll post the updates asap. I really would love to work at this department for its decent pay, good benefits and store discounts and close to home.. We'll see what happens.... *crosses fingers*

Typically, the results of lab work goes straight to the doctor. I must admit I have never been drug tested, so I am not positive about who gets the results. In my case, my results go straight to my doctor, and are available 24-48 hours later, depending on the test.

Did you ask the lab for copies of the sign in sheet, and the paperwork you filled out on the day you were at the lab? That is part of the checks and balances, put in place specifically to avoid this kind of situation.

That would be your proof that you had the test. It shouldn't be so complicated. If you had 48 hours to get the test, and have the results back to the store, why did you wait 2 weeks to check? That is 12 days later than they gave you.

Rather than making all these phone calls, and getting so frustrated, just have the test re-done, and make sure the results are back to the store within 40 hours, which leaves you 8 hours before it's too late, again.

Remember, the lab and the store deal with many people everyday, so some rules have to be in place...and you have to go by those rules. Good luck!

Oh yes, let me know what happens, OK?

your right it shouldn't be so complicated.. Unfortunately no one seems to know anything and I'm still stuck without any results and it doesn't make sense how this could have happened. The only reason I waited so long was because they told me they would call me so I had no idea how long to wait. Regardless, I do have the papers stating I took the test at date and time and yet no manager is willing to work with me or return my calls. I'm currently waiting to hear back on the tracking of my specimen but have no received a call in three days. Would you happen to know a number to call and file a complaint against La b Cor p?

I'd be more then willing to retake the test but I can't seem to get in touch with any manager who knows what they're doing. on to the next job I suppose.. But I would love to file complaint but not sure how.

I'm not sure I'd file a complaint against the company who holds the key to you getting and keeping this job. If you are ever involved in an accident at work in the future, you could be drug tested. We like to think that every business is professional, but human nature can sometimes get in the way, and another drug test could be lost in the future. Don't burn your bridges.

Honestly, I would not spend time on filing complaints if your goal is to find a job. The time you have spent could have been time better spent on continuing your job search.

Has it occurred to you that the company simply does not want to hire you? Unfortunately, that could be behind this confusion.

After all, do you really want to work for a company who appears to be so disorganized and inefficient, to handle applicants this way?

Although I have had only positive experience with the lab you used, there are other labs that do the same thing. I would just start over, myself....but I certainly understand your frustration.
