Hi ,my name is charmain . im new to this so please bare with me.
I have bad pain in my butt/back and hip also pins and needles in my foot/calf and leg. Ive had a mri and was told i have a L5/S1 moderate protrusion and a L4/5 annular fissure the L5/S1 is displacing and compressing the nerve root in the lateral recess. Does this mean surgery? Im still waiting patiently to see the consultant. Can any one shed some light on the matter.
thanks x:(

There are a variety of treatments available depending on the findings and your symptoms. For some surgery is the answer but there is also physical therapy, epidural injections, nerve ablations, and medications that can also help. Will you be seeing an Orthopedic Spine Surgeon and/or Neurosurgeon.

im not sure what surgeon i will be seeing. Still waiting to see a consultant who has cancelled my appiontment 3 times.Getting very impatient. Ive had pt didnt work. Im know going to see a choripratror. (spelt wrong).thanks for the info.

Personally, I would say away from a chiropractor until you see a qualified back doctor and he gives you the go ahead to see the chiro. Sometimes they can do more harm than good.

I agree that you may want to wait to consider chiropractic care until after you've seen a spine specialist and have a full evaluation (Orthopedic Spine Surgeon or Neurosurgeon).

thanks for all the info . I will wait to see the consultant. Let you know how it goes
