Hello,
I am hoping to get some advise here. Approx 2 years ago a protrusion and extrusion of L5-S1 due to some lifting. I was out of work for a few weeks and was seen by 2 seperate neurosurgeons one on my own and one for workers comp. I occasionally suffer what I believe is Sciatica Pain which is located in my lower left buttock down the back of my leg approx 12" below the buttock. The pain is sharp and seems to continue regardless of what position I am in. I have been taking Celebrex 200mg 1-per day as required and this does help a great deal. The pain comes and goes I will have it for a few months then it is gone then it returns for a few months.
I have since changed employers and continue to do physical labor work. I was contacted a few weeks ago by the insurance company informing me that they would like to settle the Workers Comp claim on this as I was given a 7.5 permanent partial impairment rating. Now I have not sought out any treatments for this since the time of the injury and a few weeks after. I have just lived with the pain and taken the celebrex when it got to be too much.
I was told that treatment options were injections ESI or last resort surgery. I will not go through with surgery as I have heard too many horror stories but I would not rule out injections if the pain got to be too much.
My question is how will this pain progress? I have no intention of doing this manual labor for much longer a desk job suits me just fine. Other than the Sciatica pain I have no problems. I am not a wealthy man and what the insurance company is offering could really help us out. What should I do?
