Hello wildbill - I am not certain if there is a difference between a discectomy and a micro-dicectomy (which I had). With the procedure I had, I left the hospital the same day as the surgery with only the equivalent of a band-aid over the incision! I took it easy for awhile per the doc's orders, but the recovery is relatively very quick and painless. Good luck, and I hope your procedure works for you - mine did not.
