I suffered an L1 compression fracture last Feb 23 /08 . I a a 51 year old female. I was riding on the back of a snowmachine and we went over a bump. Apprently it was a small bump. Imediatly I had severe pain in the back so I knew something terrible happened.
I had exrays whiched showed L1 compression fracture. They did a bone density as they suspected Osteroperois. I don't have it but have some calcium loss in hip area. Was given pain meRAB and told to wear a back lurabar brace. A few months later my legs were feeling weak so they did an MRI. Nothing showed was told it just takes time. Went to Chiropractor went thru lazer therapy and exercise program. Was feeling much better the end of summer so I went back to work in Nov. lasted for 2 weeks. Pain in lower back, buttocks and shooting pain down my legs started up and getting increasingly worst. I was taken back off work and now they want me to wear this other brace a Thoracolurabar brace for a while not sure how long but was told they try differnet things first as the last resort is a fusion surgically. It has been almost 1 year since injury and I can still hardly move around, bend, walk , stand or sit for long perioRAB. I get so frustrated at how long this is taking. I feel so helpless and down as I am not even able to socialize much at home and mostly away from home.

Hi, i feel so bad for you, that sounRAB horrible, :(
Back pain does get you down, you feel you cant do anything and even the things you can still do, you have trouble in, it gets sooo frustrating and sometimes you feel just like crying, which is wat i do wen I'm really feeling upset, for now try to find something you can do that you enjoy and take it easy, I know it must be annoying having to hear, 'just take it easy' but if you're getting help for it then just keep off your feet.
I dont have a fracture, but I have permanent nerve damage and problems to do with my discs, its been a long year and my back hasn't eased off either, I cant do wat I used to be able to and I miss it, but like you too i'm thinking of surgery, although this is my opinion, on all the research I've done, i just want to let you know that laser spine surgerys are a much safer and much higher success rated surgical procedures compared to fusion which can make things worse and takes a long recovery time, unlike laser surgery. :) if u wan tto know anything just post it and i'll help you as much as I can, back pain sucks:(

And just to let you know something if u wanted some info on wat u can do to help youreslf heres a bit of info, just thought it may help.
walking and swimming may help if pain eases off and you feel your able
and also heat and ice can help too

Heat may be used to decrease pain and stiffness. Use a hot water bottle, heating pad, or warm, moist compress. To make a compress, dip a clean washcloth in warm water. Wring out the extra water, and put it on your back for 15 to 20 minutes, 3 to 4 times each day.

Put crushed ice in a plastic bag and cover it with a towel. Put this on your back for 20 minutes three times a day. Ice makes blood vessels constrict (get small) which helps decrease inflammation (swelling, pain, and redness). Do not sleep on the ice pack. It may help to have someone rub the ice on your back.
goodluck :bouncing:
