I just had my fusion done on Tuesday. When is a good time to start moving around without help? These last couple of days aren't even describable when you talk about the pain and helplessness.

Actually you should be up and moving already. You should be getting up to walk several times a day, each time going a little farther. The walking helps your blood to move and that helps the healing. Don't forget to drink plenty of fluiRAB to stay well hydrated and to help make sure you don't get contipated.

Also, the more you move, the more it helps the pain lessen as the muscles and nerves get moving again.

Hang in there! You'll get through it.

I am walking a little. It does hurt quite a bit because of the staples. I went about 200 ft. today. My rt leg goes crazy when using it. I have been drinking as much as I can and trying to eat high fiber stuff.

Hi there - I'm almost 5 weeks post op. Mine was L5/S1 fusion. I was on crutches the day after surgery and now walk a mile a day. It gets easier every day but very frustrating at times. Remeraber not to do too much once you start to feel better and good luck with your recovery

Thanks Ruth, it is the wait that kill ya. I think that the nerve is becoming hypersensitive, I've had it before from a prior surgery gonna call on Monday to get a nerve block.
