Interesting, but it looks like their focus is downloadable security for the cable market.
How this could translate into a more secure CA for Dish/Bell is pretty unknown.
Also no real time frame.

I suppose the biggest question is, is it backwards compatible to the current fleet of millions of set tops based on the Echostar reference platform?

Could you imagine the cost to swap out boxes for 1.8M subs? What about 10+M subs stateside?
Who would bear the cost?
Now this could be a real possibility for a new Bell IPTV initiative if that ever gets off the ground.

Starting fresh with some new service makes more sense to me that trying to correct the situation they have now, I thinks it's just WAY TOO BIG and out of control than to do much more than 'manage' it as best they can.
 
that is a pipe dream they have been talking about for years...then, quietly in the background, Bruce Telecom (a small regional provider) beats them to the punch.

a full digital MPEG4 stream complete with HD channels...very impressive, especially for a small company...they even have well priced bundle packages.
