Kramer vs. Kramer

Just finished watching Kramer vs. Kramer. I have to say I loved it...until the last two minutes.

Did anyone else disagree with the ending? I felt it would have been more realistic if Joanna Kramer had taken Billy at the end, and was disappointed that they coped out at the last moment.

I suppose this happy ending is probably what won it the Academy award though.

What do you think?

One of my all time favourite films. I recorded it to watch when I can snuggle up on the sofa with a hanky! Great it was on BBC too so no aRAB.:D

When we went to New York a couple of years ago I dragged my OH around several places shown in the film. We were there at the perfect time to see the apple blossom, which if I remember right is in the scene where he teaches his son to ride a bike. It's at least 15 years since I watched it last. Meryl has done well to still be getting great roles to play.

Read the book in my teens before I saw the film. Great film!

The little boy should've been given an Oscar too, imo.:)

Edit to add: To answer the OP, I don't actually recall whether the film's ending is faithful to the book's. I do know I enjoyed both though.

Nothing wrong with a happy ending - especially in this case.:D

The Meryl Streep character was depressed and devoid of any feeling due to her extended state of meltdown, and didn't really want the kid anyway, so Dustin won in the end.
I think it was well written and true to life. Nobody copped out.:)
