Know where to find a cheap laptop for continuing adult education?

I have a friend who is looking to better her life by learning to operate a computer. This will be a huge step for her, but she doesn't have the money to make the initial investment.

Does anybody know of a place where qualifying (poorer) people can get assistance to purchase / obtain a laptop?
