i have a large knot under my skin that keeps getting bigger and i do not know what it is. It is located between my left thigh and my groin and it is getting very sore. What could it be and what should i do about it?

sounds like a possible lymph node that is enlarged for some reason or inflammed? you really DO need to see your doc about this and have him or her just palpate that area to even see if this is just the actual lymph node or something else entirely. if this is painful and red it could be a large boil that can actually start from something like a tiny ingrown hair? just how does this actually 'look' to you?

but running some basic labs on you could show some type of infection going on or something else that just can cause our lymph nodes to enlarge? we actually have many different areas where the lymph nodes are palpable, like in the very same area only in the other side of your groin too? how is THAT area, okay? do a little image search on lymph nodes and you will see all the areas in our body where we just have lymph nodes, then kind of feel for those areas too just to see if any others are also enlarged to any degree? but you really do need to get this evaluated by your primary and see what is creating the enlargement right now, espescially if this has been getting bigger and not smaller? and like i mentioned above, simply running some labs can show of there is something going on inside your body that is actually the underlying cause of it being this way? usually an infection in certain areas will cause our lymph nodes to simply enlarge. this is just usually more of a 'sign" that something more underlying is going on, ya know what i mean? hopefully it can be cleared up easily enough. please let me know just what you find out, K? sounds like an (sp?) inguinial hernia. I had to have one repaired and your discription sounds like what mine felt like. It was very painful, then it tore through and lumped out. Get it checked quick. I how it is something simple!!

About how large is the knot? I saw a similar post about this from another user. I agree that it's possible that it's a swollen lymph node, or even a cyst. If it's a larger knot, it is possible that it's an inguinal or femoral hernia. Definitely look into this to see if it's a possibility. Like the above poster, I also had surgery to correct two hernias, so I would be glad to help out with any questions about them. Mine were not in a dangerous stage, so I did not feel any pain, only a little bit of discomfort during exercise. I was able to do the typical "hernia cough test" and found that when I coughed, the lumps would bulge some. When I laid myself down, they flattened. A hernia may not flatten out if it's strangulated (the tissue poking through is stuck), and this means that it needs to be looked at asap! If the knot is quite small, it's probably something else though. Also, does it feel that it's at the surface of the skin, or a bit deeper in? Hernias are caused by a weakness in the muscle, where tissue bulges out, so these would be a little deeper in.
