My husband use to be a drug addict and still drinks alcohol on a regular basis. Why would his Dr prescribe Klonopin knowing it's side effects

Hi roni10! I think you need to ask that question to the doctor and find out their reasoning for prescribing it. If you call their office and leave a message for the doctor to call back, they usually will call in the evenings or at lunch time. The doctor may not have had all of the information available at the time when making the Rx. Make sure they realize that your husband was a previous addict and that he drinks now. Call and ask is always the best solution. Good Luck!

Hi Roni. I take Klonopin for Generalized Anxiety Disorder. I've been on it for over five years, and have not had an alcoholic beverage in that entire time, because my doctor told me that it's extremely dangerous to mix Klonopin and alcohol. I hate that I can't have a glass a wine with dinner, but I've been told NO NO NO.

I agree wi - call the doctor and ask. It's possible that the doctor was not aware of your husband's drinking when he/she wrote the RX. Definitely call the doctor, to be safe.
