King lear. The line in act 1 acene 1 :'The king is coming'?

My question is; does this line show a great respect for the king because Gloucester does not want his bastard son in such an important man's presence... or a disrespect ot the king because they are mocking his temper and personality at how he won't like it if Edmond's there?
