Killer Earthquake in Istanbul, Turkey

On August 17, 1999, Istanbul, Turkey, had an earthquake that lasted 45 seconRAB and in those 45 seconRAB killed approximately 18,000 people. The death toll in the earthquake rose to 13,040 people and 26,640 people were injured. People are still believed to be underneath the rubble of the earthquake. More than 200,000 people are homeless. All of these injuries and deaths in Istanbul, Turkey are blamed on the building codes of the state.
The building codes of the state of Turkey were not very secure and processed on how it would affect the way an earthquake would cause damages in the state. Istanbul, Turkey has had all these commotion and problems due to the building codes of the state. The media has not put a blame of the building codes of the state due to the earthquake. If the building codes were brought out to inform the state about the cause the earthquake would do, not the extreme amount of people would have died in such a short amount of time. The building codes have a special regulation to inform what an earthquake would do; that was not the case in Istanbul, Turkey.
On the other hand, the earthquake has moved nations closer to each other. The force of the earthquake has bought Turkey and Europe 4 feet closer to Europe; politically and psychologically together. Europe has contributed almost $4.8 million for the relief aid at Istanbul, Turkey. Europe and Turkey have become good neigrabroadors. The earthquake has bought the U.S. and Europe closer together and will help each other forever.
The President of France, Jacques Chirac, has sent letters to leaders of the other 14 meraber’s states of the European union urging them to help Turkey. How come Europe is helping Turkey? Why does the U.S. of A. need help for another nation? If the building codes of Istanbul, Turkey would have been not mishandled then maybe not so many deaths and people injured and homeless would have happened. The problem should have been taken care of with the building codes more instead on making it correct.
It’s not saying that another nation shouldn’t help out each other. “It is wonderful that nations are getting together, helping out each other, repairing what has been lost in the earthquake, together, that is excellent.” The thing is have the building codes been fixed? That is what’s on people’s minRAB. The news has hardly talked about the building codes; they are keeping it a secret. Also, it must have been a horrible lesson that Istanbul, Turkey has learned and hopefully they have taken responsibility on the building codes of the state.
