this morning i had a little bit of pain in my lower back, which has gotten worse throughout the day and i think it might be a kidney infection. i had a strep throat the past week and i heard that it can be caused from that? my lower back is really really painful!

a couple of friends i know have had kidney infections before but i am still quite worried. im going to try and get an appointment for tomorrow at my DR but if i cant get one straight away then im going to go to ER.

has anyone had a kidney infection before? im scared :(

No, strep throat cannot turn into a kidney infection. Urinary system infections are usually from bacteria from your feces getting spread into your urethra. Sex, the way you wipe after going to the toilet, or just the way you're built can all contribute to a UTI. Since the pain just started today, it's very unlikely that it is anything serious if it is a UTI. It takes a long time for the infection to spread enough that it would cause serious consequences. They can certainly hurt, though, so do try to get in to your doctor (or an urgent care facility) so you can start antibiotics quickly. It's also entirely possible you are having a spasm of your back muscles or something else entirely unrelated to your urinary system.

I had a UTI last year. I noticed when I got up one morning that I felt like I had to pee all the time, but nothing really came out when I tried. I figured out what was going on, saw my doctor later that day, and started antibiotics that evening. I had some dull pain, and it did burn when I peed for a day or two, but strep throat hurt a lot more!

As Rhiannon777 said strep throat most likely will not turn into a kidney infection...but I do have to disagree with how long it takes for a uti to spread to the kidneys. Of course with some people it may take longer to reach the kidneys but if a UTI is left untreated for even a day you run the risk of kidney involvement.

Are you running a fever? Vomiting? How about when you urinate...does that hurt? These are all common signs of UTI with possible kidney involvement. I have quite a bit of exp. dealing with UTI/kidney infections with my daughter. This is not something you want to mess around with...the kidneys can be damaged if any type of infection is left untreated. My advice would be to see your doctor...even if it turns out to be nothing...it is better to be safe than sorry. The test is quite simple...a little urine in a cup, a dipstick...results usually within 10 minutes.

Good Luck to you...

I had a strep bacteria kidney infection once...no idea how I got it in my urinary track...LOL but oh well. Generally, you'd know you have an infection WAY before the kidneys are effected.
