Key words being typed on the internet can tell what the world is discussing?...?

They say theres some kinda supercomputer that is tallying up key words that are being typed all over the internet and are used to see what is being said the most? Like the word Clinton, obama, muslim, tax-return, and all kind of other keywords are talleyed up and are being used by websites to market those words.this true? What is this?
