That's how I feel about the KEWLopolis Strawberry Shortcake series. As a 40 year old male, I'm no SS connoisseur or anything, but I actually liked the 2003 videos more than the original specials. I actually didn't mind how the producers transformed the series into a villain free "slice of life" show. While the Purple Pie Man had some (fairly) amusing moments, he fell pretty firmly into the "I'm bad just because the show has to have a villain" category, so I think that the show did just fine (albeit sickly sweet) without him.
I haven't seen the latest Strawberry Shortcake reboot, so I can't comment on that one.
But that's just the opinion of 1 adult who's obviously outside of the show's target demographic. Saying "The new series is inferior because it's not the one that I personally grew up with." is a classic case of retro snobbery, and I can't help but be amused whenever an adult tries to pass judgment on a show that's clearly tailored for little kids.
The kids, whom the new series is aimed at likely have never seen the 80s series, and many of them probably wouldn't care even if they had. The lack of Grams Bear and the Care Bear Cousins isn't a weakness; it's just a different take on the franchise. American Greetings can include (or not include) whomever the shell they want to include because it's a fictional universe which is subject to the whims of it's creators.
It's your opinion, and you're certainly entitled to it, but the fact of the matter is that if you're old enough to remember the 80s show, then Care Bears: Adventures in Care-A-Lot wasn't made for you, so it doesn't matter if you don't enjoy the series. It only matters if the kids like it, and I haven't heard any complaints from them about how the new series stacks up to the original (of course, I don't have any kids, so I wouldn't know if they're complaining or not).
