Keep game running in the background while using other apps on iPhone?

I'M running iPhone firmware 3.1.3 on the iPhone 3g. I would like to know if there's any way I can continue a game running while I go reply to a text message. My iPhone is not jailbroken
 
nope unfortunatley... iphone does not have multi tasking... the only multi tasking it has is on the phone while surfing internet and apps email etc.
 
no, but their are these things called push notifications where if ur in an app like aim, and then u leave the app u can still see what people write to u like a text message pops up.
