Kawasaki ninja 250r for a first bike. New or used?

I'm hoping to buy a 250r within hopefully 6-8 months 2008 and up preferably. I'm 6 foot 1 (with no sneakers) and attending college this fall semester. I've already made up my mind I'm not getting a 650, 600 or a 500 for a 1st bike. I don't have the money, the patience to save for it (I've wanted a bike for the longest and the wait is killer as it is), and can't find any around my area that don't look like scams (ny). And i wanna learn on a 250. i was at a kawasaki dealer back in june "trying on" some bikes with a friend and the dealer was telling me that they would have to order a 250 and have it put together because they sell like hot cakes. i was reading up on some of otd prices some people were getting.. 4800-5700?? for a 250r???. is it possible for them to order a previous year model like an 08 or an 09 just to have a lower otd price ?? or am i stuck looking for over priced used 250rs (according to Kelley blue book)?
