KATE WINSLET Appreciation Thread

I have been a fan of Kate since about 1995.

Having been a fan of Peter Jackson's earlier films, Bad Taste and Braindead, I bought Heavenly Creatures blind on vhs.

Remember, this was a time before the Internet and the amount of Movie magazines available at the time was tiny.

I was expecting another low budget gorey film.

How wrong I was!

Within moments of seeing Kate onscreen, I just knew I was going to follow her career.

I will certainly admit The Reader is not her best performance, but she certainly deserves her Oscar!!

I see this Oscar as an award for ALL her performances combined.
She is an amazing actress and I especially love Clemintine from Eternal Sunshine.

Definitely deserving and she will only go on to bigger and better things [if it's possible, her CV is astonishing]

One of the best film actors currently living. So happy she won!

I've seen most of the films she's starred in - and she's never given an average performance as far as I'm concerned.

Yes, Our Kate should have won the oscar for ESotSM - one of my favourite films of the decade.

Apart from being an excellent actress, the other thing I like about her is that she always comes across as such a nice and normal person. The sort of girl you could take down the pub to meet your mates.

I watched Heavenly Creatures on BBC1 the other night. I'd always managed to catch the film half way through and was relieved the see it all the way through so I could catch the plot and story line.

Great film but not one I'd like to see again due to the ending and the fact it was based on a true event.

I have really gotten into Kate in these couple of years, i think she is just great and The Reader was fantastic, i still need to see R Road

I think its an amazing accomplishment to win an Oscar for a performance which wasn't even your best! I think its true testament to her talent that she can still be the best in a year and not be at the top of her game. I actually think she was better in Revolutionary Road, but nevertheless, superb in the Reader.

I agree she deserved it for Eternal Sunshine though, Clementine was such a believable and involving character brought to life by her. Heavenly Creatures was a great film, and her character is shown by the fact she was so choosy over her roles after Titanic, even when (apparently) offered some huge gigs.

I really believe that Kate Winslet and Meryl Streep are the two best actresses in film at the moment.

I agree Hern, if anything HC was one of her best performances considering it was her film debut! Who'd have thought she'd crack Hollywood so soon with Titanic.

I adore Miss Winslet and I have never seen a performance of hers that I have not enjoyed- I even think she was wonderful in Titanic! She lights up the screen and seems to be a wonderful, down-to-earth young woman and a devoted family woman to boot. She really is the perfect woman! I have such a girl crush on her!

I'm very proud of her for finally getting an Oscar and of my cinematic hero (Gus Van Sant) for being nominated and for purely selfish and personal reasons I'd love to see them work on a film together one day! :D
