Ok so I have something to say about the plans for the up-and-coming Justice League movie.
With the strike over, the movie is back on track for a 2010 (I think) release. The problem is that they have decided to change their focus and take away two of the key players in the JLA. Batman and Superman are out of the movie, citing a strange continuity obliterating reason. Batman has been expelled and Superman is dead (tying this to the in-between period during the Doomsday saga).
OK so I understand why they don't want to use Christian Bale and Brandon Routh. That's fine, so why not recast or use existing actors. Tom Welling wasn't really ever in the running for the movie (although fanboys wanted to think he was), which I think is the greatest shame about this direction. The Justice League that Smallville has setup is superb and by 2010 Smallville should have finished so it could very easily be a sequel to the series. Most of the characters (Superman, Black Canary, Green Lantern, Flash, Martian Manhunter, Aquaman, Cyborg and Chloe as a reimagined Watchtower) are already established so it doesn't need to be an origins movie and they can do the storyline they wanted. Batman and Wonder Woman would need to be added, but that could be done without destroying the continuity of the film universe, with someone smart at the helm.
I know this is just another fanboy rant, but anyone watching the latest seasons of Smallville will know that Tom Welling is shaping up to be a far superior Superman than Brandon Routh was. And lets be honest, the Justice League origin episode in Season 6 of Smallville was one of the finest episode ever produced.
OK so I have opened the box, please feel free to hurl abuse.
