just starting vodafone contract 30 days...?

ok so my mum's just got me a 30 day contract on vodafone, and i read on the website forums " In the meantime, it will be pro rata minutes and costs up to the last day of the month." can someone please explain what this means because it won't tell me how much minutes i have left etc until the first bill
