Just removed my cast from a broken ankle, advice?

On Monday, after five weeks, I finally got my cast off from my now "healed" broken ankle. It seems though that the ankle area is still very swollen and bruised up. Is this normal? I have plates and screws in my ankle and it's still very stiff when I try to rotate it (my Dr. suggested that I rotate my ankle) but I seem to be walking fine, on two crutches- I'm hoping to get down to using only one crutch tomorrow, There's no pain, except when I try to move my ankle joint, and sometimes when I'm not wearing my walking boot and my leg is just hanging out. So I was also wondering that if it is okay that I rotate my ankle with my hands assisting and then trying to do it on my own? I find that it's much less painful this way. When would the stiffness go away? and how should I go about using the walking boot? I'm very scared of putting too much pressure on my leg too fast I'm also scared to overwork it, so anytime I feel a little pain I stop- or am I supposed to work through the pain?

If you guys have an other suggestions or comments please feel free to leave them. I'm very paranoid when it comes to my ankle so any reassurance and corrections to what I am already doing is more than welcomed.

Thank you in advance!
