its good you are now realizing the true overall importance of just staying properly hydrated. it IS responsible for kepping alot of our body systems running in top notch condtion. it even affects your heart rhythems if your water intake is not enough. we are made up of ALOT of water that is just a very essential part of maintaining what is called 'homeostasis". we run on alot of electrical impulses that also need water to just function and trigger or fire nerves properly too.
the kidneys alot really really need water to even function properly, even having a slight impairment in our water supply can affect kidney function overall. thats just how crucial it is for good body system function. i personally, becasue i found out at around age 39-40,that i had actually been born with a particular form of kidney disease(did not have a freaking clue til then) HAVE to keep drinking water from the time i wake in the morning til i go to bed at night. i have to also take alot of different meds for pain and other problems stemming from a spinal cord injury too, and that extra water just helps to filter out all that crap much more quickly out of my system.
as far as what you were reading about THAT much water being consumed each and every day, realistically,it would be very hard for anyone to relly do. i just keep a cup of ice water goin all day long that i drink from and refill when needed. just ADDING any amount of increase right now into your life every day IS a big improvement, trust me. the thing here is, once you start just adding this(keep a water bottle of some type around you all day long somewhere handy) and just do it for even like a week or so,you will sort of start a pattern or doing it, at least much more than you do now, ya know what i mean? cutting out pop as much as possible too would really make your kidneys happy too. the caffine that is in alot of the different types of pop IS also a dieuretic so it makes the peeing off of that water in even worse. they also contain phosphates that just aren't real great for the kidneys either. just some helpful tidbits of info on just how not having water or creating situations where it leaves your body much more rapidly than norm can have an impact.
your overall fluid(water) intake is just really crucial to maintain normal body system function and preventing certain problems from even becomming an issue at all ya know? just start thinking about it and drinking it whenever til this starts to become kind of just another thing you do each day. trust me, you will be doing many body systems a huge favor.
just an FYI for ya here, but by the time to actually start to get thirsty, in most cases, you are already somewhat depleted in your overall fluid level in your body. the thirsty part pops in to just let you know that this IS going on, and the NEED for it is already there. so preventing that NEED for a drink of water in the first place just puts you kind of ahead of the game. good luck with the increasing you fluid intake. it is the best thing you can do for yourself overall in many different ways. let me know how things are going.
