Hi! I am hoping by posting in a general area that maybe someone will recognize my symptoms or have some advice. I am on my second workup for wrist pain. Last year was told it was neck / posture issues.

Pain has not gotten any better. It has spread from my wrist to top of hand, forarm, even a burning pain on the outside of my forearm. It's like my arm is sunburned it is so sensitive to the touch. I had an EMG which was normal. I had a c-spine mri yesterday and awaiting the results. I expect it to be normal as I do not really have any acute neck pain. I do have issues with what I was told was positional vertigo. It comes and goes with no rhyme or reason. I also have what I think are muscle spasms in my right shoulder blade area that radiate up my neck into my jaw and settles there. Lasts only a few minutes and will leave my back shoulder blade sore, so I think that is muscular.

One of the most important things is that I have lost so much strength in my dominate right hand it is only 15lbs now. I seem to have lost some coordination with my right hand too. Mainly when I am doing quick things, almost those things we do on autopilot. If I am focused I do better, but those things that I used to do without thinking about it I have issues with.

I do think it is important to say that I work with microscopes every day and do a lot of fine instrument work. I have issues with trembling in my right hand sometimes too, but not all the time. Mainly when I have been working a while. I do have the tingling and numbness, but again it's intermittent.

Any ideas would be appreciated. I see my hand doc again monday to get the MRI results, but I really believe it will be normal. I looked at my disc they gave me and nothing stands out. Spinal cord looks clear of any compression and discs look consistent, so if there is something I think it will be minor.
Thanks. Labgeek.

this could very well be an issue within your c spine itself that just does not affect your actual cord but possible stenosis or bone spurs that are irritating a nerve or nerves up there. you would be amazed at what just one really inflammed angry nerve can produce as far as symptoms(and you could very easily have a totally normal EMG too). it takes the interpretting rad along with your doc to realy read everything that shows up in your MRI films to really know for certain. the MRI just sees alot more in depth into your spine and surrounding segments. it would show a nerve root that is only being intermittently irritated by just what findings pop up. the only time an EMG will show an abnormal result is when there is some sort of constant compromise of a nerve that is affecting actual nerve flow. mine was normal too despite having alot of pain and problems in my right side. just wait and see what comes upin the report and what your doc has to say. when nerves get irritated, they do send out little signals to the neck and shoulder muscles(with c spine related issues) so this could very well be a nerve that is causing your symptoms.

hopefully whatever is casuing this is not too bad and easily fixable. make certain that you obtain your OWN copy of the results and any other testing types of results as well for your own files.this allows you to read thru things on your own. beleive me,when it comes to mostly speacialists, they do not always even tell you about evrything that was actually found in your own MRIs,or other tests results either. please let me know what you find out,K? good luck, FB
