Just leaving Videotron (end of the month) and was wondering what should i do ?

Any new receivers at BEV soon ? any fall promo for BEV ?

What's the quality of the HD with BEV ? compare to cable (like ROgers HD or Videotron HD) ?

Thanks

I actually did the reverse and switched to Videotron. Did you own the Illico receivers? Your best bet would be to tell Bell that you are currently a Videotron member and are thinking of switching to Bell, this will give more of an incentive for them to "sweeten the pot".

For videotron they gave me a lot of free hardware for an exchange of my bell receivers (I had 2 old 2700 receivers...but the tech didn't want to take them :D ). I imagine Bell would do the same thing.

There is a lot more HD on Bell, I could not notice any big difference in picture quality. Expressvu is a nice system, I only left after a string a avoidable problems in that when you are an "existing customer" you are put on the back burner (I have no doubt that there will be similar issues with videotron).

I made sure that I own the videotron hardware(2 standard receiver, 1 HDPVR) so in 2 years when if have calmed down I can do the same thing and go back to Bell

The current promo will give you programming credits of 10$/month for 10 months

As for the new HD receivers we have no updates...

As for the picture quality I saw both Videotron and BEV and BEV is way better. You can maybe discuss it with
Dr Ako who had both...

Bell will not buy back you Videotron receivers and will not "sweeden the pot" if you say you were with another provider. The deal is the deal, you like it you take, you don't like it you don't take it!

nice to know...

when i cancelled my Internet and TV with videotron, for sure they transfered me to the "Don't Leave us please" departement... Videotron, instead of offering me something better for TV or even Internet.. She told me i didnt need that much speed (that i'll have with Bell) and when we talked about the TV, she told me if you want to come back there's 100$ fees to reconnect...

So still a few weeks with them and after go to BEV for sure....

Videotron has more French HD than Bell at the moment.

I think you will find Videotron's 2 or 3 product bundles pretty attractive, on balance, vs. Bell Expressvu + Bell landline + Bell Sympatico.

But TV would be, I think, the deal breaker. Make sure you are clear about what you are gaining -- and what you are losing (like On Demand and channels and packaging you watch today that may vary on ExpressVu).

Why are you leaving cable?

Are you likely to have the same problems jumping to Bev?

What consideration if any was given to Canada's leader in the MOST FREE HD television?

Have you read all the threads here about some of Bell's dirty little secrets like Customer disservice, Compression, handcuffing policies, dim future?

Do they actually have the channels you want?
Many are missing compared to other providers as they scramble to find bandwidth and remove some content to make room.

Can you wait 'till 2009 or later while they get things going again with new technology?

I've found it interesting that many former long term Starchoice subs are coming back home after their internment for 2 years with Bev.

To ARR:

"I've found it interesting that many former long term Starchoice subs are coming back home after their internment for 2 years with Bev."

I'm not shocked by this at all. The company that everyone thinks the least of as far as the big 4 are concerned ( Bell, Star Choice, Rogers, Videotron) is the one thats actualy going some where right now. Bell is stuck in a hole right now. Their out of space and they need to think of a way to get more channels quick because by 2009 there wont be a need to launch that new sat because all the subs will be gone. As far as rogers goes, IMO they have some of the most rude CSR's ever, not to mention way over priced when it comes to hardware and packages.

Starchoice is the only one right now who is showing any positive signs. Their Adding more channels constantly, Mpeg4, Improving IRD software, etc.. as well as keeping competeable prices. on top of that, theres no Contract to sign like bev/rogers.

Ill tell you one thing, i love my bev system and never had any real big problems with them.. but if it wasnt for my wife.. i would have probably given starchoice a try. she some how has it in her head that Starchoice is not as good.. But who knows... If bell doesnt get their act together mabie ill show her "the light";)

Consider that this is coming from a Bell employee with vested interests.

Other posters say different. EV will not buy back the receivers but will provide extra incentives if you bargain.

I compared EV and Rogers recently. Rogers has considerably better picture quality, HD reliability and package value over EV. That was not the case just two years ago. Expect EV's position to deteriorate even more over the next two years while cable companies leverage their superior technology to provide better channel selection and more services. EV is stuck until at least 2009, when they plan to roll out MPEG4 and possibly add an extra satellite. Bell's DSL technology doesn't have a hope of competing with cable for at least several years. Bell's only hope is to roll out fiber optic cable to the last mile (like Verizon) but they have not announced any plans to do so.

This client, if read the location next to his name, leaves in Montreal...I don't think Rogers is availbe over here, correct me if i'm wrong!

Rogers are not available in Montreal and i'm an ancient customer of Videotron and i can confirm, the picture quality of BEV is way better, especially with standard channel.

It doesn't change anythig for me whether this client decides to go ahead and get Express Vu or not... I personnaly work for a sub-contracted compagny, not Express Vu directly and pay my service at the full price, a little more than it used to cost me when I had Videotron a few years back... If I woudn't be personnally convinced about the product I woudn't first of all use it, and second I certainly woudn't sell it.

i agree with you... customer is cutomer... If you work for a company and you kow the service is better with another, you'll go see the other one.... for you own services at home.

So why im leaving Videotron... Being a client with them for many years, and now i want to do some changes with my package or received, they barely cant offer me something new or less expensive... and also the 1.99$ for TSN, RSN and im sure soon for RDS... i find it's annoying.

So when i say the Optic Fiber (Sympatico Optimax was offer in my home), i decided to make the switch... and even Videotron couldnt offer me anything to keep me with them.... instead, she told me that i didnt need a higher speen for Internet.. and she told me if i want to reconnect my TV service, it's going to be 100$ fees... so i told her, you made my decision even easier... no coming back to Videotron.

I just wish BEV had some nice promo now..... usually they got some good one for the fall... i guess ill wait....

and for Star Choice, yes they seems to finaly go better and better... but WTF, no HDMI on the receiver...

I switched on monday, I had HD with Bell and now Videotron. The PQ is almost identical. Of course this is all based on personal opinion.

Picture quality differs greatly depending on which channel you watch. For instance, RFO (channel 147) on Bell is totally unwatchable (very dark colors with static all over the screen at times -- it is obvious that they pickup the signal from an analog source, and it is awful). In comparison, the same channel on Vid

That's true, I just tuned in to channel 147... Picture is not as good as on most other channels. I never notice because I never watch that channel

I even have vertical bars in the picture...but my other channels are perfect and I have over 89% signal on all transponders

True enough, I'll change my statement to the channels I watch have an almost identical PQ.

Of course with 2 young kids, 90% of the time the TV is on it is to watch TreeHouse ;)
