Just got a new puppy and it wont quit whining at night....?

Anyone have any suggestions to make him quit? It keeps my husband up at night and he has to be up early! Cant put the puppy outside yet. He is only 5 weeks. PLEASE HELP! lol
 
If he is confined to a cage, that is probably your problem. Keep the cage in your bedroom so he knows he's not alone. Or cover the cage with a blanket so he can't see any movement. If nothing works, let him sleep with you.
 
I just got my dog last year. For the first two or three nights let him sleep with you. I don't suggest the bed because then he/she will think they will always sleep their. You or your husband sleep on the couch with the dog next to you. The puppy is only crying because it misses his family and is lonely. I suggest after that keep him in a crate.
 
Doesnt a puppy need to be atleast 8 weeks old before being tooken away for hes mother?.... And to answer your question just ignore your dog until it stops whining, once its stops go and pay with it take it for a walk and praise it. It will then learn that whining gets it nothing.
 
with our youngest dog we crated her. I must admit that the thought of crating her sounded cruel to me at first but she actually liked it. She still sleeps in it 2.5 yrs later. Its kind of like her safe place she can go when she is feeling all alone.
 
the puppy is going to whine, it is lonely and misses it's mother ant siblings, give it a few days and it should stop. You may want to put a clock or something next to the puppy so it thinks it is near it's mother.
 
try to hold it at night allot of small adopted dog get a night scare at there new home so try to covert it.
 
he may have to go to the bathroom and to scared to go try going to paper or what ever he goes to the bathroom on and wait or i don't know if u allow this he mit wan't to get in the bed but can't get up if u allow him to get in the bed then pick him up and have him sleep next to u. that is what my puppy did when he was liltle he cryed until we put him in the bed and he shows no sign of agression!

have him sleep in a dog carrier then give him a clock that ticks, so he will think it is his siblings
 
He is whining because he is entirely too young to be away from his litter. Can you get him back to them for at least three, and probably more like seven weeks? He is missing some very important puppy lessons that are best learned from mom and his sibs.

make sure the dog is ok.take him to the vet to make sure everthing is ok.the best choice is to ask the vet.
 
well my toy poodle stopped whining after a couple days just give him some time to get used to it and he should adapt quite well but at a young age they may take them longer to adapt because they are so young and your puppy's teething may last a bit longer than normal because he was taken away at a young age,he may also bite because he does not know that his bites hurt, but as for the whining try to let him be alone for the first week and then gradually put him closer to the desired area of where you would like him to sleep

aw mine did this to, shes five now lol.
the first few nights i actually slept downstairs on the sofa with her at the bottom because it just wouldnt stop! she was so scared and missed her mum i guess!
she stopped as soon as she was settled into the new home.
i slept downstairs for maybe 3 nights, then the few after she whined a little but not so much and then eventually she stopped once she was sure of her new surroundings.
 
Yes, take it back to its breeder. 5 weeks is MUCH too young to be away from the mother/siblings. Whomever sold you that puppy is an unethical twit.
 
It will take a few nights for your puppy to start feeling comfortable!!! I really like the idea of crating, I have always starting crating my dogs until they are old enough. It gives them a safe spot and a home to feel comfortable. With my most recent puppy, he was pretty bad so I talked to the breeder. She told me to put some blankets in the bottom of the crate and under the blankets put a small ticking clock. This mimics the sound of a heart beat and will be reassuring to the puppy. Maybe even put a stuffed animal in the crate with it that it can curl up with, it's probably not used to not having litter mates to cuddle with just yet!!
