Okay just got my blackberry plant (It has maybe 5 sticks/stems 6 inches tall with stems coming outward left/right and some little green 1/4 stems are coming out so I guess the plants waking up) Okay so will those stems (sticks already there when I bought the plant) produce blackberries since they're there already? I trimmed some of the edges of the sticks (the insides were green) b/c they said that produces growth.2) Is that true?
3) Okay so in the middle of the sticks/stems the leaves have grown from the bottom. Are they going to grow upward (become stems/sticks)
Okay after answering 1-3 please tell me what I should do now? I planted the blackberry plant in a huge pot to keep it from getting out of hand as a lot of articles said it would if I just grew it in the ground. I also put dead leaves/dried out under a layer of new soil. I think that's supposed to keep the dirt moist longer and I'm assuming it'll add nutrients for next year. (Oh I also put it in that big pot so I could move it b/c I don't have a lot of sunny areas in my yard). 4) BAsically please tell me when it gets colder what am I cutting off or back (sticks that are there now or new ones that pop up) I don't wanna cut off the sticks that are supposed to produce fruit either this year or next and I know somethings supposed to be trimmed.
