option to make 4wd impossible? just spent 5 years not knowing how to turn 4wd on completely. looked in manual and read about free-wheeling hubs- a switch behind hubcaps going from 'free' to 'locked'. just turned the switches to 'locked' and 4wd works perfectly once transmission has been engaged.
we intend to leave the hubs in 'locked' position as long as there is snow on the uk roads, and only have to change transmission from '2' to '4', without getting out of the car to change the hubs.
MY QUESTION IS; why do we have the option to leave the hubs in 'free' position, meaning it is impossible to enable 4 wheel drive? why would someone never want the option?
thanks
