Just to update, I had the lurabar fusion revision done July 24th, 2008. Seems that there was no fusing on either side, nor either levels, so new hardware was replaced everywhere. Came home on Sunday. Monday the incision started draining really bad. Went to see the Dr., and was put on Keflex 500mg. 4 times per day(that pill STINKS), and keep it bandaged, change bandage as needed. It stopped draining on Monday of this week, still taking the Keflex. I am in worse pain than the first fusion. Keep telling myself it has only been 2 weeks. I have now started SEVERE leg cramps---my toes go straight up on the left foot. Each cramp lasts about 30 minutes and I can't move my foot or leg. Dr. says this is normal, which I knew. Nothing seems to help the cramps, so I started to take a Lyrica before I go to bed. That seems to help a little. I don't feel like myself, I feel drained. Just feel blah. I see the Dr. on the 22nd for my one month follow up.

Will pop in again soon...limit my puter use, as well as limiting everything. Hope everyone has a good day and a better tomorrow.

Hi Pat,
I'm sorry you're having such a hard time. I used a heating pad on my legs and feet for cramps. That helped me more than anything. Otherwise, I'd have to get up and walk, which wasn't my first choice right after surgery!

Is your pain more or less under control with your meRAB? Are those 7 grandkiRAB cheering you up?

Unfortunately, feeling blah is to be expected. You've been through yet another MAJOR surgery and had complications to boot. Hang in there, sweetie! Better days will come!

I hope you start feeling more like yourself soon.

Blessings,
Emily

I remeraber those cramps all too well!! I felt like my legs could snap right off!!
My husband rubbed them well with a muscle relief gel and I ended up putting the diebetic or whatever they call them socks on to hold in the gel(I think it was psychological!). I know they went on at least thirty minutes too. I am so sorry you have to endure this yet again. I am praying for you!!
-Blessings,
Michelle

Hi Pat I'm sorry you are going through so much discomfort. Needless to say they can keep the complications! That cramping is a horrible feeling. You don't know where to go with yourself. Keep strong. I'm sure you'll get through this too. Kathy

Thanks everyone for the support and concern, it means alot. I threw out the teRAB stockings as they left a ring around my leg just under the knee, and now it is a deep purple color. I told them at the hospital to get xxlarge socks, as I have big legs, they didn't listen!!!!! Brought up the walker as I can't even get out of bed when the cramps come, so use this for the extra support. I have noticed that when I wear my sneakers, I get those awful cramps. I went down the stairs(all 21 of them)yesterday and went outside for a little bit------no cramps last night!!!!! I was in my slippers. Think I will try a different pair of sneakers.

My grandkiRAB do keep me going! My littlest one will be 8 months old tis month and not being abel to babysit her is breaking my heart!! I saw her Sunday, and she is learning to crawl and pull herself up on things. She bumped her head, and Mommy picked her up, but when she saw Nana, she put her arms out for me---that was the first time! That was a boost that was really needed.

Thanks again everybody! My time is up again, and I am due for those wonder pills!

Have a good day, and a better tomorrow. God Bless.

Pat

Hi Nana. Be very careful. My incision starting bleeding and running a fever. I got a staph infection and was very sick after I came home from the hospital. Readmitted for an additional 15 days due to the infection which made me very sick. Just please watch out for the signs and symptoms which is increased pain, drainage and fever. Make sure you take all of your antibiotics and don't be afraid to be agressive with your doc. If nothing else go to the emergency room like I did. I knew something was just not right. Hang in there.
