Just a thought - is your water hard?

I just read a post on another board and someone mentioned that hard water was making their skin break out, and it made me start thinking. I live in an area where the water is extremely hard and always had problems with very dry skin and breakouts. Well, not too long ago we bought a water softener. Right now is it the middle of winter - when my skin usually gets so dry that it cracks open and bleeRAB - and my skin is not very dry at all. Also, my face is clearer than it has ever been! I had just never made the connection between my skin and the softer water until I read that post.

So, for those of you with hard water, you might want to check into this!

How do you know if the water is hard or soft? Would a water purifier attached to the nozzle help?

You can tell that your water is hard if it leaves spots on everything - for example: your glasses and dishes, your shower door, and your faucet handles. It also tastes different, but you would need to be able to compare to tell the difference there.

A water purifier would not make much difference in water hardness, you actually need a water softener which changes the amount of sodium and other minerals in your water.

Wow, this is interesting. I grew up in a hard water area, and moved to an area of soft water, which (along with various other factors) may have helped. Since I recently moved back home, my skin has flaired up again!
Do you really think that might be the case, I can't think why added minerals in hard-water could possibly be bad for skin?

I have had an opposite reaction.....when I'm at my parents house, which has a water softener, I break out....all over my body, but when I moved away to a place where there is hard water my skin cleared up fast. I know it's the soft water making me break out because I recently moved back home again and guess what????? My skin is all pimply once again.

Do you mean those white light like stain spots? How can I tell if my water is hard or not?
