outta first gear but I paniced? I got going pretty quickly and couldnt stop. Do I pull in the clutch and press the brake? I tried just pressing the brake but it did not work!!!!
The first thing you want to do when starting out is practice sitting on bike and not moving and letting the clutch lever (on the left) out slowly (without giving it gas) until you feel it CATCH and then immediatley squeeze it again to disengage it.
You want to find the feel of it first, where it engages. After you do that about 30 times you'll get it in your subconcious mind .
When stopping and you want to stop fast do 3 things at once.
1. Pull in the clutch lever and HOLD IT and do not let go
2. Squeeze the front brake
3. Put pressure on the foot brake
The most important thing you want to do when doing panic stops is to always pull that left clutch lever in fast and remember do not let go of it for dear life until the bike is stopped.
Now when you are stopping NORMALLY and not a quick panic stop, here is how you normally would do it.
1. As you are coming to a stop you pull the left lever in while downshifting and then let the left hand lever out again and go into the lower gear. Repeat this as you go down gears.
Downshifting is the same as upshifting except you kick down as you go instead of up.
You need to get with someone that can teach you basic controls. If this is a street bike, check local dealerships for training! If it's a dirt bike, oh well, learn by your mistakes. Read your handbook.
