I read Jonathon Swift's "A Modest Proposal" and "Gulliver's Travels" in my literature book.
This is homework and I really need some help. It's my last semester of English. I'm home schooled.
I've looked them both up online and I can't find any answers that I'm looking for.
I'm going to type the questions to them on here.

A Modest Proposal

1.What problem does the speaker describe in the opening paragraphs?
2.What solutions to the problem does the speaker propose?
3.What does the author's American acquaintance suggest is a fine staple food after being matured for a year?
4.What are three advantages the speaker claims for his proposal?
5.What objection to the proposal does the speaker think readers might raise? How does he answer this objection?
6.What are two other solutions the speaker lists and rejects?
7.What examples of exaggeration and understatement can you find and whom or what do these statements ridicule?
8.What is ironic about the conclusion?
9.What information does the speaker's American friend supply? What does this reference suggest about Swift's attitude toward residents of the English colonies in America?
10.What were your reactions to the suggestions?

Gulliver's Travels

1.Describe the Lilliputians' initial reaction to Gulliver.
2.What is unusual about the Lilliputians' size?
3.What are the political parties of Lilliput?
4.Summarize the Lilliputian emperor's command concerning eggs and the controversy in causes.
5.What does the king of Brobdingnag think of the English?
6.What technology does the Gulliver describe for the king of Brobdingnag in an effort to win his favor?
7.When the Lilliputians first see Gulliver, why do they treat him as they do? What does their behavior suggest about human nature?
8.What might the Lilliputians' size symbolize?
9.Gulliver is physically smaller than the king of Brobdingnag and his people. In what other sense is Gulliver shown to be "small"?
10.Do you believe that Swift shared the views of the Lilliputians, of the Brobdingnagians, or of Gulliver? Explain.
11. In your opinion, is Swift's use of satire more or less effective than simple, direct criticism? Why?
12.What do you think people today would do if an enormous giant suddenly appeared? What do these actions suggest about modern values?
13.Which country do you prefer, Lilliput or Brobdingnag? Why?

Thank you if you do help.
I really appreciate it.
