Greetings,

I have an 2000 Ford Contour with 210,000 miles on it. 4 cyl

This happens nearly every other time (so it doesn't happen all the time) But recently, I would start driving my car, and I feel a jolt forward as if either my engine is going or my transmission. But other times I drive and it's fine.

When it's "jolting" it's not going faster, almost feels like it wants to shut off.

Any thoughts? Could it be a fuel problem? My filter's have been changed, the serpentine belt needs to be changed, I might need a tune up although it's only been about 30,000 or so miles since I last had that done.

ANy thoughts?

If it happens during acceleration then it's probably either a slipping differential or a worn gear in the transmission. This isn't a serious problem, you just need to be sure to speed up or slow down when you feel it happen. If it just happens at random then it could be your fuel pump or injectors. First turn your car on and tap your gas tank with a wrench if you hear a click then your fuel pump its ok if not talk to a mechanic. I will also suggest buying some fuel injector cleaner. I highly doubt it's the fuel system problem or the serpentine belt, you might also want to check the spacing on your spark plugs. With more information a more exact solution can be found.
