When I read the Catholic Catechism during the confirmation classes, why was John Paul II mentioned and referenced a lot in it?

if you know of others could you share? those couple were there because he was the pope at the time it was rewritten and he had a really great way with words, did a lot of theological studies and such.

Pope John Paul II is mentioned 36 time but only in the Prologue and the footnotes: http://www.vatican.va/archive/ENG0015/6B.HTM

This is because over his 28 years as Pope, John Paul wrote many Church documents which are w referenced in the Catechism. He wrote
+ 14 Encyclicals
+ 15 Apostolic Exhortations
+ 11 Apostolic Constitutions
+ 45 Apostolic Letters
+ 5 Books
+ Hundreds of homilies and addresses
With love in Christ.
